Otokar, one of the Koç Group companies, which set out 58 years ago with the aim of doing what has not been done, published its sustainability report for 2020.

The company, which has implemented pioneering work by taking advantage of the driving force of technology and digitalization to improve the living standards of future generations with its environmentally friendly and innovative products, saves 1,526 GJ of energy and 150,500 m3 of water in production in a year; It prevented 300 tons of CO2e greenhouse gas emissions.

Efforts to Improve Sustainability Performance Continue

Otokar, which has established its basic business strategy on improving the living standards of future generations and contributing to the establishment of peace and security around the world with its 100 percent own intellectual property, efficient, environmentally friendly and innovative products, has achieved pioneering works and results this year with the practices it has implemented. General Manager Serdar Görgüç stated that Otokar not only implemented its business strategies towards becoming a global player, but also increased its efforts to reduce environmental impact and combat climate change; "During the Covid-19 process, which affected the whole world, we quickly took all measures to protect the health of our employees and ensure the continuity of our activities, and managed to maintain our business success with the devoted efforts of our employees. Despite all the negativities of the pandemic, we continued our sustainability efforts with the same seriousness during the period." made the statement.

Sharing information about the results of the activities carried out within the scope of sustainability studies in his factory spread over an area of 552 thousand square meters in Arifiye, Serdar Görgüç said; “We continue our work in environmental, social and governance areas in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We would like to thank all our stakeholders, especially our employees, suppliers and business partners, who contributed to this process. Last year, with our consistent efforts to increase our sustainability performance and the projects we implemented, we recycled 150,500 m3 of wastewater and brought it back into production. With energy efficiency studies, we achieved 1,526 GJ of energy savings and a 300 tons CO2e reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. It has been a year in which we took care of the development of our employees, our most important asset, and maintained our egalitarian and participatory business climate. We continued our training activities to improve the professional knowledge and skills of our employees during the pandemic period. We provided 24 thousand 336 person x hours of employee training during the year. "We provided a total of 13 thousand 668 person x hours of training to our employees in order to reinforce awareness and knowledge about occupational health and safety."

10-Year R&D Investment Exceeded 1.3 Billion TL

Otokar, which continues its efforts to develop new hardware and applications in line with the needs of the future, maintained its leadership in the sector with its R&D and digital transformation studies last year. The company, which allocated an average of 8 percent of its turnover to R&D activities in the last 10 years and spent 202 million TL in R&D in this field in 2020, exceeded 1.3 billion TL in total in 10 years. Introducing its new products in the commercial and military vehicle fields in 2020, the company added a new one to its firsts in the sector with the "Safe Bus" project. Safe Bus, which was developed to make public transportation safer under pandemic conditions, reduced the risk of contamination by applying four innovative systems. Safe Bus City Articulates were used for the first time by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.
